TRASH TALK GILLINGHAM

More in hope than anger, here we go again with another edition of Trash Talk. I can’t say we are overconfident the game will be on as Gillingham haven’t played since December 11th, but we have to show willing, so we are grateful for Gills fan Darren Stock answering the questions.

1 – We are at the halfway stage of the season, has it gone about how you expected for your team so far, has it been better, or turned out to be a bit of a car crash season?

It has been a disaster of a season for us so far. The last few seasons under Evans we have pushed for the playoffs however I predicted a mid-table position based on recruitment and squad depth. Injuries have been a key factor all season and has badly affected an already small squad. Sadly, I can’t see us recovering unless there’s a miracle in the January transfer window.

2 – As fans we are never 100% happy about our club, is there something about your club that really annoys you?

Just the small matter of the chairman! He has annoyed a lot of supporters this season leading to protests and a decline in matchday attendance. His ‘Chairman chats’, designed to update supporters, have been a disaster and it’s gotten to the point where I don’t believe a lot of what he says. He has taken us as far as he can, in my opinion, and needs to sell up, for the good of the club, fans and himself.

3 – All fans love an away day; can you tell us which ground you have enjoyed visiting the most and why, on the flip side which ground turned out to be a real disappointment?

I’ve only been to a couple this season. I enjoyed Cambridge as it was an old school ground. Disappointing was AFC Wimbledon’s “New” ground; didn’t help I was in the first few rows, but the views weren’t great, which was my bug bear with their previous ground.

4 – Most fans have a special piece of memorabilia in their collection, a unique item that means something special to you, do you have such an item?

The League 2 title winning shirt from the 2012/13 season.

5 – Every team has their own bogey club they just cannot seem to beat, who do you think yours is?

AFC Wimbledon again. Always seem to get the better of us even if we are in form and they’re terrible.

6 – Throughout the course of the season, victory over which club gives you the biggest buzz?

Probably one of the ‘big’ teams who think they are entitled to go up. Victories over Sunderland past few seasons have been special.

7 – Which player for your club is likely to be the biggest factor in success or failure of the result after 90 minutes?

I would say John Akinde purely for the fact he is our only fit experienced striker. In previous games, he has missed key chances which have decided the outcome of the game in the opposition favour.

8 – Is there any MK Dons player you feel could spoil your day?

All of them! Twine probably the most.

9 – We know its early still, but do you have any nailed-on selections for promotion and relegation?

Promotion I think Wycombe and Sunderland will be 2. Relegation – Crewe, Doncaster, and ourselves; undecided on the last one.

10 – Many thanks for taking part, all we need now is a prediction for the game?

4-1 MK Dons
