REF WATCH – CHELTENHAM

Being Christmas, the games are coming thick and fast so it will be good to get back to Stadium MK for a couple of games to see out the old year and welcome in the new one.

First up we have Cheltenham Town on Wednesday (29th) with a 7-45pm kick off and the man in charge is Simon Mather, and sorry we couldn’t find out where he is from.

One thing we can tell you about this guy is he must love paperwork, as of December 11th (when this article was written) he had dished out an astonishing 77 yellow cards in 18 games, 5 of those he has converted to double yellow offences and sent them off, he has also sent off 2 players with a straight red, and awarded 6 penalties……if spread betting is your thing, this guy has the potential to be your new best friend, by the looks of it  this game won’t go off without any sort of incident….this guy is gagging for it.

The last time we saw him was only last month against Stevenage….no not that ref……this was the one in charge of the FA Cup 1st Round game at SMK, not the replay.

We drew 2-2 that day after apparently coasting it through a Harry Darling header and Stevenage offering nothing going forward, then 2 quickfire Boro goals with 20 minutes left on the clock turned the tie upside down, but with the away side fans still celebrating Max Watters thundered one into the roof of the net to force the replay, and we all know what happened there.

Mr Mather will be assisted by Ryan Whitaker and Marc Wilson on the flags with Declan O’Shea as the 4th Official.
