Following on from our recent interview with Red 1 who gave us an excellent read and telling us what it takes to be a steward in modern day football. We are pleased to say we have now been contacted by Blue 2, James Pearson, who has also given us an excellent interview, many thanks to him, and if Green 3 is looking in we are waiting to hear from you.
We understand you are one of our Matchday Stewards, is there anything you can tell us about your role and routine on matchdays, home and away, without giving us any sensitive information?
Well I’ve been at Stadium MK for 7 seasons now, so I’ve seen a few highs and lows in my time there. My role is Blue 2 Supervisor looking after the Blue Stand alongside Rob (Blue 1) and our general routine on match day is to get the stands fully checked and ensure all access points are ready and the staff are fully briefed on the game in hand.
I think most people realise being a steward is sometimes not the easiest of tasks, but do you have any interesting or amusing stories you can share with us?
I think one of the more amusing times is when we do the walk up the stands to ask people to sit down and the fans start singing “Stand up if you love the Dons”, for me that’s comedy gold. But can’t forget some of the funny stories that have been shared in the Cowshed bar.
Tell us a little bit about how you became a Dons fan and what was your first game?
I didn’t start out as a Dons fan but from working there and meeting the many managers and players they have now converted me to being a Don.
My favourite game was the one against Mansfield and gaining promotion.
What were your expectations for us pre-season, and have you changed your mind on what you have seen so far?
I think every fan hopes for promotion at the start of the season, but ultimately just above mid table would be good. Having lost a few key players this season but having a good January transfer period I’d say we could definitely stay about mid-table once we start to gel the team (In Russ we Trust).
Which Dons player, or players have really impressed you so far this season?
His not been here long but I’m looking forward to seeing how Ethan Laird settles as he has a talent, maybe he could become a permanent signing one day.
Best and worst performances so far this season?
I wouldn’t say worse but most frustrating ones are where we have so much possession and can’t quiet seem to get the win.
Best performance for me was beating AFC, gotta love beating a rival.
What is your favourite Dons moment or moments?
I’d say getting promotion is one of my favourite times working at the Dons.
Who is your all-time favourite player and why?
Without a doubt I’d have to say captain Keith Andrews, he’s was a leader and always puts a shift in.
Who is the best striker to have ever pulled the Dons shirt on, and why?
I’m a United fan at heart so me being biased I’d say Alan Smith but there’s so many who could be considered the best.
Who is a good tip for promotion and relegation in League 1?
Promotion I’d say Lincoln City, for relegation I hope it’s AFC.
Fisher or Nicholls?
I’d say Nicholls as he’s a decent guy on and off the pitch.
Home games, or away games?
Can’t beat a home game with the fans singing.
All fans love a good awayday, are there any grounds you look forward to visiting again, or perhaps one on your bucket list?
For me I’d like to go to a Premiership teams stadium with the Dons when the fans are back.
Where do you think MK Dons will finish up this season?
I’m thinking we will finish above tenth, but that’s just my opinion, I’d be happy if it were higher though.
White shirt, red shirt, or black shirt?
For me, my favourite shirt is the white with gold stripes.
Your preferred matchday grub?
I don’t think you can beat a decent hot steak pie and a pint.
Any other comments?
I’ve been working the behind closed doors games this season and to be honest it’s just not the same without the fans bringing the atmosphere, so fingers crossed it’s not too long before you’re all back singing and driving the team on.
