THE BIG MATCH PREVIEW CREWE ALEXANDRA

By Jon Harries

One defeat in 13 after Saturday’s latest success at home to Shrewsbury. This was billed as a potential “banana skin” against an in-form Shrewsbury Town and they started solidly but it was the hosts with the first chance of the game, a free-flowing move found Harvie down the left, his shot was tipped onto the post by Marosi, it came out to Kesler whose first-time shot was cleared off the line by former Don Tom Flanagan.

Shrewsbury then had a golden chance when Bowman was found in the box but blazed over and from the resulting goal kick, the Dons were ahead. Cumming to Coventry, then to Twine who played Eisa in one on one, you know the rest. Shrewsbury though came back and if it wasn’t for a fantastic point blank save from Cumming denying the man in form Udoh.

Half time and a closely fought contest.

The second half was much more measured and controlled by the home team, pressing high up the pitch, and forcing Shrewsbury to get frustrated resulting in several yellow cards, in fact Elliott Bennett might have been sent off for a foul then a push in the face of Twine. Then the definitive moment, Parrott won the ball just outside the box cleanly and despite some Shrewsbury protests the referee correctly played on. He found McEachran who in turn found Twine who created space in the box before firing into the bottom corner, and he’s now tied with Izale McLeod for most goal involvements in a single season, the Wiltshire Wizard just gets better. Shrewsbury best chance for a consolation came right at the end Jennah blazing over from two yards out.

The Dons now right on the coat tails of the top 2 going into midweek, the Automatic Promotion is On!!

Crewe are the visitors to Stadium MK on Tuesday looking for only their second win in 14. Relegation looks nailed on, particularly after their 3-1 home defeat to relegation rivals Fleetwood. Losing Charlie Kirk, Perry NG, and Harry Pickering and not adequately replacing them has been the main reason why they have struggled. Keeper Dave Richards has not had any protection from the players in front of him, Scott Kashket has been in and out of the side, and even Mickael Mandron has played at WB such is the lack of quality in the side. Chris Porter has also been tried up front and in all honesty after speaking to several other opposition fans there really isn’t a Man in Focus for this game.

Predicted Line-up

Cumming

Kesler – O’Hora – Darling – Lewington – Harvie

Coventry – McEachran

Corbeanu – Parrott – Eisa.

This might be a bit controversial resting of Twine, but for me this should be a game we win without needing to use him. Crewe are vulnerable and just want the season to end and with an outside chance of being top come 10pm Tues night, I can see a ruthless 4-0 victory, Eisa x 2, Corbeanu and Kemp with the goals.

After the devastating news about Harry Wilmin on Saturday afternoon, Tuesday will have a lot of emotion but knowing this team they will play with pride and passion.
