It’s been a year since I first approached the MKDSA about a memorial for Lucy Dawson and the renaming of the Fan of the Year award for 2023.
Today would have been Lucys 26th birthday, and it seems only appropriate that we choose now to let you know about my plan to extend the memorial for Lucy for next season in a new and very appropriate way.
As well as a Dons super fan and employee Lucy loved to play football and I personally think the best memorial would be something on the pitch and for us as fans to put together a consortium under the banner of Friends of Lucy Dawson and to sponsor a member of the ladies team under that name.
A player has been earmarked, and I’ll let you know more info when everything is confirmed because there’s still a little bit to do on that front.
The MKDSA has kindly agreed to collect and distribution donations, but this isn’t a MKDSA project or my project, but a fan project and again we’re doing something that no other fan base has done before.
When I came up with the idea to sponsor a player in the mens team and to put a consortium together to sponsor players I never imagined it would have taken off like it did but look at what we as fans achieved there.
We’re still probably, the only fanbase to do anything like that, and hopefully this will be another 1st that other fan bases will look at and do something at their own club to grow the ladies game which will be a further legacy.
I’d like to thank you all in advance and a extra big thank you to The Dawson Family, everyone at the club, the MKDSA, Steve at MK Worldwide and The MK Fellas who I dropped my plan on with a ridiculously short time frame of completion and had positive responses from everyone.
