The Fleetmaster Big Match Preview – Wycombe

After the fantastic opening day win in League Two on Saturday Graham Alexander brings his Dons side home to face Wycombe in the League Cup first round tonight.

The five goals, three points and outstanding individual and team performance will count for nothing tonight. This is a cup game under the floodlights against county rivals.

Wycombe are the higher ranked team due to our really poor season, but currently there are only four teams between us, they sit in 22nd place after getting pounded 0-3 at the industrial estate by Zak Jules and his Exeter team mates on Saturday.

As far as team choice tonight we’re expecting quite a few changes from Saturday but with a squad very light on experienced options Alexander may need a couple more of Saturday’s side to play or be on the bench.

We normally are calling for a settled side being given time to gel but we do see some changes being made and thoroughly welcome in fringe players taking the places of the resting the players who ran themselves into the ground beating Wrexham.

Expect to see Nathan Harness replace Craig MacGillivray in goal.

In defence we are a little short on options so it’s possible Tucker and O’Hora stay but Norman and Smith drop to the bench or are rested completely with Scholtz and Illunga getting the nod.

In midfield its likely two of Williams, Robson and Gilbey aren’t starting tonight and upfront its a tough call to rest Leko and Eisa and bring in Dean and/or Dennis, or keep them rolling after their best combined performance.

We’d love to win this one, without a doubt, progress and get a decent draw in Round 2 with a chance to bank a bit of cash should never be discounted but our focus is on getting back to League one at the first go.
