Jon caught up with Nathan, who for a Posh fan seems ok, even with the sacrasm. Its banter Nathan we love it, thanks for such extensive answers
Are you content with Peterborough start to the season?
I’d say yes because ultimately we are in the play-off positions at the time of writing, but context does come into things and we’ve not been half as good as I believe we can and should be at this level. It’s a top 4 squad minimum that’s not in the top 4 positions, and having just been relegated I think you would arguably expect to be going straight back up and that’s definitely in the balance for Posh this season after the mixed start we’ve had.
Are you happy with what you have seen so far under Grant McCann And has he changed since his last spell in charge ?
I would say overall happy because I think he plays the right brand of football, he works with young players to try and improve them and he has a set philosophy, but there have been odd and frustrating in game changes that have led to use losing a game from winning positions and that mistake has been repeated a few times so there’s lots of room for improvement. In terms of if he’s changed, I’d say he’s more confident in himself and his abilities and now he’s had success elsewhere at other clubs I’d say he commands greater respect now than he did in his first stint.
Which players do you expect to cause problems for the Dons on Thursday night ?
Jonson Clark Harris is the obvious one, but Jack Taylor has been in good
goalscoring form from the centre of the park so he’s a player to watch as always. Likewise, Kwame Poku is a top player at this level and dangerous from that right wing area so if he’s on his game he will be a handful.
Are you happy with Peterborough transfer activity from the summer and which signings have impressed you the most so far?
Largely yes, we made improvements in a lot of areas and besides allowing Sammy to leave to go to Blackburn we’ve kept the squad together from the
Championship. However, there’s a glaring need for two new fullbacks to compete with Joe Ward and Dan Butler and as yet we’ve not gone out and signed in those areas. I’d say Mason-Clark has impressed me the most, to make the step up from the National League and be so effective and dangerous is a masterstroke of a signing. He’s arguably been one of best players all season beside Clark Harris.
Who or What made you support Posh And what’s your highlight so far following Peterborough ?
They’re my local club, and I was hooked as soon as my Dad took me to my first game as a 7 year old. Having then watched the golden era of Boyd, Maclean and Mackail-Smith from the terraces, not to mention Tomlin as well, how could you not have fallen in love with Posh? My highlight would be watching us lift the JPT at Wembley years ago, I wasn’t able to get to the Play-Off final at Old Trafford years ago so for me that was the next best thing. What a day!
What style of play can we expect to see from Peterborough on Thursday ?
Hopefully fast paced, attacking football with a high press. On current form we may get the exact opposite but it is MK Don’s I suppose, we tend to turn up for you boys!
If you could have any Dons player, who would it be?.
I like Jack Tucker as a centre back, shame we didn’t push for him before you signed him. I also really like Louie Barry, he’s a handful and will have a great career in the game. You don’t get to Barcelona’s youth ranks if you’re not a very good player at any age.
Peterborough have a proven track record of nurturing and producing attacking players? Is Kwame Poku the next off the production line or is there another player destined for a higher ceiling?
He’s one of many if I’m honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harrison Burrows and Ronnie Edwards play Premier League football at some point in their careers as they are top players already and can improve even more. Poku is just a delight to watch when he’s on song and he’s begun to find his feet for us this season as he did last season too.
Which Peterborough game are you most looking forward to this season?
Derby, we owe them after defeat earlier in the season and there’s few bigger games at this level than them. Hopefully they’re more Nigel Clough than Brian Clough that day though!
What was your thoughts on MK Dons in our recent first League One encounter this season and were you surprised? I was surprised how easily we gave up two poor goals at the death. It was such a comfortable game for us so to give away those goals shows we need to be more focused in the dying embers of any game tbh.
The Dons have had a poor start to the season considering the highs that were achieved last season, where do you think the Dons will finish in League One this year?
Out of the relegation spots, 17 th or so. You’re too good to go down but I suppose much of the damage has already been done.
Are there any weaknesses in the squad you would like addressed in January?
Full backs as I’ve said, they’re a genuine must if we are to have competition for places.
Thank you for participating, it really helps us get a stronger understanding of the opposition!
Finally, what do you think the score will be?
3-1 to Posh. I hope and pray.
