REF WATCH CHELTENHAM

By WhistleBlower

EFL Trophy action on Tuesday night as we face Cheltenham Town in the first of three group games with the game kicking off at 7pm. Also be aware if all square at 90 minutes penalties will be taken for an additional bonus point.

Looking back at Saturday’s ref Leigh Doughty did ok, so we will give him a respectable 8.

On Tuesday night then we have Ref Lee Swabey from Devon in the middle, yes, I know Devon, you couldn’t make it up, Devon, and not including last Saturday where he was probably reffing up in the Northeast somewhere Mr Swabey has taken control of 5 games booking 17 players. He has no double yellows to his name and just one red card so far and has awarded 2 penalties.

Last season he reffed 27 games booking a remarkably low 64 players, in addition he upgraded just one to a double yellow, sent just 1 player off and awarded 5 penalties.

Last season we saw Ref Swabey on two occasions, our 1-0 defeat at Charlton in the last 16 of the EFL Trophy in January 2022, and our 2-0 home win versus Morecambe in April 2022, the goals coming from Harry Darling and Daniel Harvie and that is the only game we have won out of 7 Lee Swabey has officiated in, losing the remaining 6.

Assisting will be SMK regular Anthony Da Costa along with Kevin Howick, and Abigail Byrne as the 4th Official.
