REF WATCH – IPSWICH

By WhistleBlower

As is the way this season we will be looking back at our last ref’s performance and giving them a score and making suitable comments. Our ref on Tuesday night has been no stranger to controversy in the past and is to some degree a yellow card machine, but somehow Charles “Charlie Boy” Breakspear took a night off from the paperwork and issued nothing, in fact I can’t even recall him dishing out a few sharp words, must have been the heat. I will score him a generous 7 mainly because his assistant on the East Stand touchline was way off the pace, and we counted 2 offsides missed, and 2 offsides wrongly given, that takes some degree of skill, or lack of it.

Moving on to this Saturday we have Ipswich Town with Carl Brook in the middle, who must be gutted he only has to journey from East Sussex to get to the game, we can only imagine he has to get back the same day for a family function or something.

Mr Brook in his third season in the EFL has reffed just two games so far but has already managed to flash the yellow on 8 occasions, and he looks to be on a mission to tackle Breakspear’s haul of 178 yellows in a season. Last season he was in the middle on 30 occasions booking a respectable 124 players converting just two of those to double yellow offences. In addition, he has shown the red card on 6 occasions and awarded 4 penalties.

The last time we saw Mr Brook back in October 2021 we suffered a 1-0 defeat on the road to bottom of the pile Shrewsbury Town when we were sitting in 5th. We had 75% possession that day but that wasn’t the main talking point as it was later revealed Shrewsbury had ejected two of their home fans for racist behaviour, both were subsequently handed lifetime bans.

Assisting Mr Brook on Saturday will be Gary Maskell and Joseph Stokes with Damith Bandara on 4th Official duties.
