Here we go then our first competitive game of the season and unusually in the Carabao Cup and on a Saturday. The man in the middle will be Sam Purkiss from London a referee we had on two occasions last season, the 3-2 away defeat at Gillingham in March where we scored that record breaking goal of 55 passes, and the 4-1 away victory at Swindon in what was our last game of 2020.
Last season ref Purkiss officiated at 27 games where he issued 70 yellow cards and 7 red cards, that’s an average of 2.5 yellows per game and 1 red card every 4 games, but strangely in our two fixtures last season not one of our players made it into his little black book.
Mr Purkiss will be assisted by Stuart Butler and Adam Ricketts on the flags with Steven Plane taking care of the 4th Official duties.
