REF WATCH SUNDERLAND

It’s our weekly look at who the EFL have lined up for our next game, this time  against Sunderland on the road. Looking at his photo he appears to be an exponent of some sort of martial art, so if I was David Kasumu, I’d give him a wide berth, as he looks capable of handing out a mean left arm chop.

Joking aside this week’s referee is Mr John Brooks from Sheffield and its been a while since our paths last crossed, in fact it was back in League 2 on the road at Tranmere Rovers. For the record it was 13th April 2019 and we lost 2-1, David Perkins got Tranmere going in the 30th minute, only for Kieran Agard to head home the equaliser 2 minutes later from a Jake Hesketh cross. With 30 minutes left on the clock Tranmere scored the winning goal to drop the Dons out of the automatic promotion spots with just 4 games left in the season.

That day Mr Brooks booked 5 players, 4 of them Dons players, Agard, Aneke, Martin and Lewington, and I get a feeling there was a certain amount of animosity aimed at Chuks, if my memory serves me well.

Brooks seems to get a lot of appointments as a 4th official in the Championship and the Premiership so his opportunities are a bit thin on the ground in the lower leagues as he is apparently being lined up for bigger and better things.

This season he has reffed on 10 occasions booking 27 players and the red card has not seen the light of day.

He is joined on the flags by Matt McGrath and Richard Wild, with Mark Dwyer as the 4th Official.
