The Highs – Goals
We only conceded 45 goals. That’s our joint fourth lowest Goals Conceded tally, matched by our Goals Conceded tally of 2012-2013 and beaten only in 2014-2015/2021-2022 (44 goals conceded) and 2007-2008 (37 goals conceded).
Far better than the 66, 68, and 66 goals conceded in each of the last three seasons!
The highest in the League, beating Notts County and Grimsby Town’s 74 by 12 goals.
- 8 goals more than the 2021-2022 promotion push (78)
- 4 more than the 2007-2008 double trophy season (82)
- 3 more than 2008-2009 and 2023-2024 (83)
- Only behind the record 101 goals in 2014-2015
A stark contrast to last season where we could only score 52 goals. By January 24th, we’d already surpassed that tally!
Points and Goal Difference
Our 86-point tally was the fifth highest ever amassed by MK Dons in a 46-game season.
Our +41 Goal Difference is the third-best in club history, only behind 2007-2008 (+45) and 2014-2015 (+57).
Favourite Game of the Season
We’d only just returned to winning ways the previous week after three without a win and it was a real statement of intent from the team. We really kicked on from that point and the team showed us they weren’t ready to stop fighting for automatic promotion.
Other Memorable Games
The second home game of the season and you could see the Dons meant business.
Ended our first four-game winless run and launched a four-game winning streak.
The late attacking football and three-goal burst was exceptional.
Aaron Collins stepped up brilliantly in Callum Paterson’s absence.
Possibly the best win of the season given the pressure and importance of the result.
Lowest Moments
For me, it was conceding the late equaliser at home to Chesterfield. It felt like those dropped points — combined with the defeat to Colchester United — would cost automatic promotion.
Ironically, it may have sparked the response we needed. We went on to win 10 of the next 13 games afterwards.
When Did Belief Start?
Personally, I started believing after we beat Walsall. We’d just drawn against Crawley Town in our first game without Callum Paterson and it felt like do-or-die.
The response afterwards showed the squad’s determination and resilience.
Favourite Moment
What a happy day that was after everything we’ve been through.
Credit Where It’s Due
Paul Warne has been a breath of fresh air. Marvin Ekpiteta, Jack Sanders and Curtis Nelson have shown incredible commitment all season long.
Alex Gilbey has been an outstanding captain, while Craig MacGillivray and Liam Kelly have also been superb.
Are Callum Paterson and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing our best strike partnership since Will Grigg and Benik Afobe?
Looking Ahead to League One
In five League One campaigns, Paul Warne has achieved four promotions and never finished lower than 7th.
More importantly, this feels like a team built to compete — with players signed from Championship-level clubs and promotion-chasing sides.
Hopefully we can really kick on and bring more good times back to Milton Keynes.
