Fleetwood Town vs Milton Keynes Dons Preview:
· Here we are then!
· After 45 games, we have guaranteed promotion and one point clear at the top of the table, we have the chance to earn our second League Two title.
· Quite simply, we will be champions if we win or as long as Bromley do not win their game at home to Walsall irrespective of what our result will be.
· Right now, we are five games unbeaten, having won our last three and only conceded three goals in that run.
· Our last three wins have coincided with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing starting and I really do feel we have been back to our best in those games.
· With our current form being at it is, I really have been feeling confident about us winning games again over the last three weeks.
· We seem to have returned to form when it mattered the most.
· A quick shoutout to the defence. I’ve definitely made my opinion clear on our current clean sheet situation. However, aside from our defeat to Barnet in March, we’ve only conceded 2+ goals just one other time after drawing 2-2 to Grimsby Town on 31 January (when we beat Cheltenham Town 3-2 on 7 February). So credit where it’s due. This is a very impressive statistic which has also contributed to us being where we are right now.
· Such form is obviously what we will need to continue showcasing as we seek to go up as Champions tomorrow.
· Fleetwood Town come into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town in which they surrendered a 2-0 lead.
· The draw means it is now just two wins in 11 for Matt Lawlor’s men as they fell down to 15th with just one win in their last six.
· However, it is also worth noting that they have conversely lost three of their last 16 games having recently gone on an eight-match unbeaten run, albeit their last two losses coming within their last five games.
· Given this record and additionally considering that Cod Army will definitely want to end their season on a positive note as they seek to finish the season in 14th, we will once again have to be at our best in this must win game.
· I would really like us to win this game as I cannot think of a better way of starting League One than off the back of four successive wins and a six-match unbeaten run.
· In recent seasons, they have proved a difficult opposition for us – prior to beating them in November, they had won the last four meetings and we have only won 2/11 previous meetings.
· We’ve moreover only won twice at Highbury. Though when we have won, we’ve won big (3-0 and 4-1).
· Nevertheless, the overall record is an even with six wins, four draws and six defeats for each side.
· And we have scored more hat-tricks (three, from Ryan Colclough, Joe Mason and Scott Twine) against Fleetwood Town than any other side!
· Hopefully we can carry forward our recent red-hot momentum and clinch that title!
· Last time we played Fleetwood Town away in a season that had the same calendar days as this season, we did win 3-0 after beating them 2-1 at home earlier in the season…
· We’d all love a win like that tomorrow - let’s get another big win and bring the League Title home!
· Up the Dons!
