Match Report – Lincoln City

The Dons grabbed a goal late-on through Paris Maghoma to ensure the visitors travel home with a point for their efforts at Sincil Bank – where the hosts remain unbeaten this season.

It was the worst possible start for the Dons who found themselves behind after just five minutes. Lincoln were causing problems from the get go and almost benefited off a Jamie Cumming error when he took his time on the ball before scrambling it away and eventually clearing. However, the Imps came back moments later when Jack Diamond got the ball down the right before cutting it back to Daniel Mandriou who hit it first time into the top-right corner far beyond Jamie Cumming’s reach to give the home side an early advantage.

The Imps had another chance after a quarter of an hour when Jack Diamond robbed Jack Tucker off the ball and played it across the path to Regan Poole who took his time down the right-hand side before firing his effort wide through a crowded area and out for a goal-kick.

The Dons had struggled all half to get going and move the ball up the field with the majority of the game being played between Zak Jules and Jack Tucker having no intention to progress the ball up the pitch. The only mere chance for the Dons came through Eisa who had the ball in the box before being out-muscled by the Imps defender.

HALF-TIME: LIN 1-0 MKD

The Dons started the second-half much stronger and almost went level through Mo Eisa who had an effort cleared off the line. Jonathan Leko was found in space and dribbled his way into the area before looping a cross over towards the back post where Mo Eisa headed on-target but was only denied by the head of Paudie O’Connor. Lincoln responded well with a few chances of their own – Mandriou broke down the right-hand side and Struck his effort from just outside the area which was deflected over for a corner which led to nothing. The hosts won a free-kick thirty yards out but Teddy Bishop’s effort only went as far as the wall.

There was a flurry of chances for both sides with around twenty minutes to go. Former Don Lasse Sorensen played in a cross to Boyes but his effort was well-blocked by Dons defender Jack Tucker who cleared off the Line. The Dons brought the ball forwards with Leko who drove down the Left-hand-side before crossing into Will Grigg who gets a slight touch but Rushworth is able to make the save. Devoy then won the Dons a free-kick around 30-yards out but Leko’s effort ended up over the bar. KaiKai also saw a sliced-effort fly harmlessly over the bar.

The Dons equalised in the 90th through Paris Maghoma who’s deflected effort ended up in the back of the net! The Dons won the corner following a clearance from a Lincoln player. The ball finds Maghoma who managed to flick it towards goal which took a deflection on the way but managed to fly over Rushworth and into the back of the net to earn the Dons a very good point on the road. The Dons could have potentially won it with the final kick of the game having won a free-kick just outside the area but it was not meant to be and Johnson’s effort went curling wide.

FULL-TIME: LIN 1-1 MKD

A sigh of relief from the Dons who picked up a very important point on the road at Sincil Bank courtesy of a late equaliser through Paris Maghoma. Despite a woeful first-half from the Dons – A strong effort in the second-half means the Dons do not leave the north-east empty handed.
