REF WATCH LINCOLN CITY

For those of a nervous disposition we suggest you look away now, don’t read any further and take a lie down in a dark room, so whisper it quietly, Brett Huxtable is back at Stadium MK on Saturday for our clash versus Lincoln City.

All joking aside and trawling back through the records we haven’t done too badly when Brett has been in charge lately, probably winning more than we have lost.

We have been in his company this season for an EFL Trophy game at the Pirelli Stadium against Burton Albion in front of just 690 brave souls back in August where we won 2-1 and scored all the goals. Jay Bird and Harry Darling scored twice in 4 minutes, and Matt O’Riley scored an own goal 5 minutes later to give Albion a bit of hope, but we held on to win.

The last time Brett darkened the doorstep at SMK was ironically against Lincoln City in September 2020 in a game we lost 2-1, and that despite having 68% possession. As I recall that day it was a hotly disputed penalty that got Lincoln off to a flyer, Cargill clearly won the ball, and although Huxtable probably didn’t have a very good view he gave the spot kick, and the lino in the best position of all remained unmoved. Again, somewhat ironically, we equalised with a similarly controversial goal from Joe Mason who looked miles offside, and again the same lino kept his flag down……. guilt perhaps at not overturning the penalty, who knows, but it was all academic as Tom Hopper fired a thumping header past Lee Nicholls to take the points 12 minutes from time.

Mr Huxtable had a busy day back then flashing 8 yellow cards, 5 of those to Dons players, Harvie, Houghton, Brittain, Cargill, and of course “Big Bad Dave”.

Brett has officiated at just 14 games this term handing out 43 yellow cards, but the rest of his copy book is blank, 0 double yellow offences, 0 red cards, and 0 penalties awarded. Now I’m not a betting man, well I am actually, so I might just have a cheeky bet on a penalty and a red card, its going to happen, isn’t it?

Mr Huxtable will be assisted by Christopher Husband and Paul Lister on the flags, with Sam Ogles on 4th Official duties.
