A rare runout for us on a Wednesday, even rarer live on Sky Sports and against some top opposition in the shape of Plymouth Argyle.
The man in charge is Samuel Barrott from the West Riding of Yorkshire with Darren Blunden and Stuart Butler on the flags and Nicholas Cooper taking care of the 4th Official duties.
Ref Barrott has been a busy bunny this season notching up 22 games at 7 different levels, International Friendlies, EFL Trophy, League 1, League 2, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and U20 Elite League, and he’s no slouch dishing out the cards with 89 already under his belt, 1 double yellow offence, and one straight red which is more than his tally from last season, and we are barely halfway through the season. In addition, Mr Barrott seems to love a penalty already pointing at the spot on 5 occasions.
The last time we saw Mr Barrott was back in Feb 2021 when we beat Northampton 4-3 at home in a League 1 fixture. Looking back this was some game with one or two little nuggets I’m betting most people have forgotten.
The Cobblers scored after just 2 minutes with Ryan Horsfall volleying home, 10 minutes later Andrew Surman made it all square, and 10 minutes before the break Will Grigg gave the Dons the lead. In the 1st minute of the second half former Don Ryan Watson scored for the Cobblers to make it all square again, then current Don Peter Kioso scored for Northampton 12 minutes before the end and looked to have stolen the points, but the game was far from over. Substitute Cameron Jerome levelled the scores once more 7 minutes from time, and another sub-Charlie Brown sneaked in at the near post to convert a Daniel Harvie cross 2 minutes from time.
