Today we have another cracking read, this time from 22 year old Conor Wright who is currently living in Glasgow. Hopefully Conor it won’t be too long before we see you at some of those northern grounds you have listed….make sure you come along and say hello.
Tell us a little bit about how you became a Dons fan and what was your first game?
I actually grew up watching other teams. My Dad is a Forest fan and we lived in Peterborough at the time, we always moved because he was in the forces. I probably went to 50 odd games a season, home and away with him, with either Forest or Peterborough. When we moved to MK everything sort of fell into place and I found my own team and town I could identify with. My first game was ironically against Peterborough in Stadium MK- the 3-2 win in the playoffs in the season Peterborough actually went up. I found myself in the home end rooting for MK and went to the away leg too where I’m still a bit gutted and baffled at how we didn’t get to the final (can thank Mark Little diving for that). That’s when I knew where my allegiances firmly in place, and I got a season ticket the year after and have followed the Dons religiously since.
What were your expectations for us pre-season, and have you changed your mind on what you have seen so far?
I expected another season where we’d do well just to stay up, to be honest. I thought losing Healey in particular would be a huge blow and I wasn’t convinced at all by who we were bringing in. But players like Fraser and Jerome have been revelations. I also thought we’d be in trouble when defender after defender was leaving (Keogh, Walsh, Poole), but we’ve brought in even better. In the past few months it’s all come together and even if or when we drop points, I can see exactly what our identity is and where we’re headed. I feel we’ll keep getting better. I genuinely believe we’ve got a shot at making the playoffs as everyone’s beating each other still and we’re one of the few sides that seems to have a clear identity and progression in place. In Russ we trust.
Which Dons player, or players have really impressed you so far this season?
Almost too many to mention. In no particular order I’d say Fraser, O’Reilly, Jerome, Darling, Sorinola and Fisher. There are so many others though where there have been flashes of brilliance and as time progresses I think we’ll see more of their qualities too (Gladwin and Surman spring to mind). Special mention too to Mason who’s surprised me, and of course to the evergreen Lewington who I always think is in his last season, then goes and proves he’s easily got another in him. If I did have to pick one though it would be Fraser. Didn’t think my heart could take Gilbey leaving but couldn’t care less now, Fraser’s fixed it.
Best and worst performances so far this season?
Rochdale the other week was immense and showed where we’re heading with this squad we’ve built. Crewe away sticks out as the low point, but as I’ve probably expressed by now, it’s night and day who we are and who we were earlier in the season. I reckon we’re due to thrash a couple teams between now and the end of the season.
What is your favourite Dons moment or moments?
4-0 vs United, Heel of God, Rotherham away in our first game in the Championship, Derby away in the Championship, 4-2 at QPR in the cup, beating Peterborough 1-0 a few years ago with 9 men (always sweet), 4-0 at Swindon, and lastly a special mention to a few of the away days in League 2, I actually loved some of them (Forest Green and Carlisle stick out).
Who is your all-time favourite player and why?
Lewie. Captain, leader, and absolute s**thouse.
Who is the best striker to have ever pulled the Dons shirt on, and why?
Izale. Only saw the tail end of his career but what he contributed over the years is unmatched.
Who is a good tip for promotion and relegation in League 1?
So hard to predict promotion, all the big boys seem to be fighting amongst themselves to bottle it. I think Lincoln will have enough to do it, and Doncaster second. Dons hopefully to sneak into the playoffs, but I reckon Sunderland might finally get out of this league – would be typical they finally do it at Wembley and no one can be there to see it. So many pretty awful teams at the bottom it’s hard to pick just a few. I’ll go Wigan, AFC, Northampton, and Bristol Rovers.
Fisher or Nicholls?
Fisher every day, best keeper we’ve had in a while. Not too much wrong with Nicholls but Fisher is just that good.
Home games, or away games?
Away 100%.
All fans love a good awayday, are there any grounds you look forward to visiting again, or perhaps one on your bucket list?
Hope we get some more Northern away days as I’m now living in Glasgow. Carlisle would be good again, and the Manchester grounds are always a class day out. I miss the Championship away days though as the level of stadia just jumps immensely – Sheffield clubs and Forest would be nice to go back to. Bucket list with Dons would be Arsenal or Spurs away – great stadiums and I know we’d take huge numbers.
Where do you think MK Dons will finish up this season?
9th.

KFC pre match, and a rollover at half time.
