MK Dons made it seven wins from the last 10 league games with an albeit poor, but winning and dramatic performance over local rivals Northampton Town.
Will Grigg, making his first Stadium MK outing for the Dons since the 5-1 win over Yeovil in 2015, also scored his first goal since re-joining the Dons two weeks ago on loan from Sunderland.
Andy Surman and Charlie Brown both scored their first goals for the club, whilst Cam Jerome also popped up with his customary goal.
A complete shock, the Dons were the ones to concede first – a free-kick from the left-hand side being converted by Horshall past Fisher on the volley. 1-0.
But the Cobblers’ lead didn’t last long at all – and it was in some fashion the Dons struck back. Surman, on the volley, smashed one into the roof of the net from just outside the area. 1-1!
And the Dons then got themselves in front – through none other than Grigg! The 2014/15 top scorer took the ball from just outside the box and curled a neat effort past the Cobblers’ ‘keeper. 2-1!
Half-time was called, and the Dons certainly went in with the wind in their sails after an excellent first half showing. HT 2-1.
You’d have thought the second half would be plain sailing – but it certainly wasn’t.
Almost immediately from kick-off, the Dons once again conceded – former player Ryan Watson picking up the ball on the halfway line, running in on goal, and firing past Fisher. 2-2.
And it then took a turn for the worse – another former Don in Peter Kioso heading past fisher to give his side the lead. 2-3.
All seemed a little lost – but the Dons, as always, found a way. Jerome showed some excellent strength to bring down a Gladwin long ball and fire past the Cobblers ‘keeper and bring things level. 3-3!
And then, as dramatically as ever, young prospect Brown popped up to win it late on – converting neatly from a cross on the left to give the Dons perhaps an undeserved three points, but one that takes them into the top half of League One!
FT 4-3! And breathe… an excellent result, even if they took us all the way.
It wasn’t our best performance – but great teams are able to win games when they don’t play well.
