Yesterday, on the way to Swindon, our coach, with 79 Dons Supporters on, including children, experienced a rear tyre blowout at just over 60mph.
Fortunately, the driver remained in full control, and while we waited patiently for assistance on the hard shoulder the travellers, being updated as frequently as possible, followed the request to remain calm and seated on the coach.
Within minutes a HATO (Highway Agency Traffic Officer) attended and asked us to remain on board until we needed to transfer to our new coaches.
Amazingly Bill’s Coaches got two coaches to us in just over an hour and got us to the ground 20 minutes before kick-off.
We have many thank-yous to say.
To Bill’s Coaches, you saved our day. To Swindon Town FC, thank you for staying in contact and working with us on route and being ready and getting us into the ground quickly. To Tom, our on duty TVP Liaison Officer. To those fans not on the coach but who sent well wishes and updated us on traffic info to speed up our journey and finally, to the “Swindon 79” including our stewards Mel and Wee John for making a difficult situation as easy as it possible could be, thank you.
We saw the kick-off, the goals, and eventually a win. What a day!
