Joe Kinnear

The MKDSA would like to express its condolences to Joe’s family friends and former colleagues on the sad news of his passing yesterday.

Joe was manager of Wimbledon FC from 1992 to 1999 and was without doubt one of the games characters.

His playing career was spent at Spurs (10 years) ending at a one year stint at Brighton.

He started his managerial career in the Middle East and his first job in England was with Doncaster. He became reserve team manager with Wimbledon replacing Peter Withe.

During his tenure the club was sold to a Norwegian consortium who were said to be looking to replace him, two years later Joe suffered a heart attack while at Hillsborough in 1999 and stepped down a few months later, thus the momentum in slide of club gathered pace. Relegation from the Premier League was confirmed soon after and the rest is history.

Joe will be remembered fondly by many for what he did as a player and a manager.

RIP Joe
