This game will prove to be the foundation of our season. The second league game in a row for the same eleven.
Last season, today’s game would have ended in defeat and probably by a few too.
This was a team performance that would have kept us up. We were on the backfoot from the moment in the 30th minute when they changed their shape that disrupted our flow.
Up to that point, the Dons were in Wrexham mode. While not dominant, they looked reasonably comfortable and were winning.
Mo Eisa had scored with a header from a beautifully flighted Gilbey free kick on seven minutes. All this while Leko was waiting to return to the field after he was chopped by a Tranmere player.
Unlike last week with the opposition threat mounting, the Dons made it to half-time with a clean sheet.
The visitors made a triple change to start the second-half. Alexander stood firm again and no swaps happened. These changes gave Tranmere fresh options going forward.
At times, riding our luck doesn’t cover it. How they didn’t score with our goal wide open for the taking will defy us, perhaps for eternity.
There were a few other good chances, near misses, and yet tonight, we sit on top of the league. You get nothing until May, but as starts go to a season, we ain’t complaining.
We’ve seen unity, grit, and a new self-belief carry us through two different games. There’s a long way to go, but it’s looking good so far. Hopefully, the crowds will grow, just over 5,000 home fans in today.
Nice to see our match report sponsors also get a great result as the official match sponsors.
See you Tuesday in Crawley.
