He was on the sidelines on Saturday so we thought we should officially welcome him.
Robbie was solid defender who made north of 250 appearances in the EFL with all but one of his previous employers being in the north. A playing career that took him from Middlesborough through loand at Sheff Wed, West Ham and Rotherham to move to Rotherham full time, then Hull City. Finishing his career on opposite coasts with Tranmere and Grimsby Town.
He was rewarded with 5 Scotland caps in 2002 .
Robbie’s managerial career is interesting being joint manager at The Mariners while still being a player, three stints as caretaker of Sunderland in 2015, 2017 and 2018 and a very short spell at Rochdale.
Hes worked under Sam Allardyce, David Moyes and Chris Coleman in his time so he joins us with quite a wealth of experience.
