PAPA JOHNS Trophy Last 16 Draw News

By Alfie Marlborough

The draw for the Last 16 in the Papa John’s Trophy takes place this Thursday at 4.30 p.m.

The fixtures will be played on the 13th or 14th of December to decide who will make the final eight teams in the competition.

The Dons eased their way into the last 16 of the Papa John’s Trophy following a comfortable 3-1 victory against Welsh outfit Newport County. Goals from Burns, Grigg, and Dennis ensured progression for the Dons!

Just two Premier League Under-21 sides have made it through so far —Manchester United’s Under-21s beat Wolves’ Under-21s in a penalty shootout. The other top-tier team to progress was Chelsea, who hammered Peterborough four goals to two.

Alongside the Dons, seven other League One sides have also booked their spot in the Last 16. Those sides include Burton, Cheltenham, and Lincoln, who all needed a penalty shootout to decide their fate in the competition. Meanwhile, Plymouth, Accrington Stanley, Bolton, and Portsmouth won respectively in normal time and did not require spot kicks.

Three League Two sides have confirmed their place in Thursday’s draw, including our bitter rivals AFC Wimbledon, who edged out Sutton United by one goal to nil. Salford City and Stevenage make up the confirmed three from the fourth division.

However, it is yet to be revealed who will make up the remaining three teams in the draw. Colchester and Bristol rovers will battle it out on Wednesday night to determine who moves on. Port Vale will also battle it out at Vale Park tomorrow evening against Barnsley with the final game in this round between Everton U21s and Mansfield isn’t until 30th November to finalise the draw.
