Ty, our globetrotting match reporter, travelled from Marseille on Wednesday this week to Abington last night to cover this one for us and if he’s not out of fuel he’ll be at StadiumMK on Saturday.

No’ton ON Chenecks U18 0-2 MK Dons U18

Young Dons need extra time to progress into the second round of the FA Youth Cup as they beat a well drilled and spirited Northampton ON Chenecks in Abington thanks to goals from Blennerhassett and Daffern. Here are the key moments from the game.

7’ – Anker dances his way through into the box and goes down looking for a penalty, but the referee points for a goal kick.

8’ – Moments later, Pickering ploughs down the left and puts in a teasing cross but it evades every red shirt and squirms away.

13’ – MK have the first chance of the game as Adepoju’s slightly deflected shot is superbly saved by the Chenecks keeper.

17’ – Chenecks sweep up a loose ball from the Dons, but the hosts first shot flies miles over the bar.

18’ – The Dons build up down the left and Anker’s cross into the box is brilliantly palmed away before Blennerhassett can pounce.

21’ – ON Chenecks stretch the Dons defence and scramble a clearance away up to Kelly who curls a shot towards the far corner but Sandford collects comfortably.

25’ – Wood does well to evade two challenges down the right, but cross just misses Blennerhassett in the six yard box.

28’ – Best chance of the game comes for the hosts as … has a shot goes just wide of Sandford’s upright.

32’ – MK respond with a good opportunity as a long ball down field to Blennerhassett who passes to Pickering but he powers his shot over the bar.

37’ – Scholtz puts in a lovely ball to … who has the net at his mercy but he manages to miss somehow. Thankfully the linesman saves his blushes as he was marginally offside.

41’ – Tripp is on the end of Anker’s free kick, but his header is off target.

HALF TIME – No’ton ON Chenecks 0-0 MK Dons

46’ – ON Chenecks throw men forward and cause chaos in the Dons penalty area, but the linesman flags for an offside to relieve the pressure.

47’ – Tripp tries his luck from distance but his shot almost lands at Sixfields.

62’ – Tripp stops Chenecks counter as he brings down his man to earn the first yellow card of the game.

63’ MK Dons SUB: Kyle Boyce replaces Corvell Pickering.

70’ – ON Chenecks well on top as they have consecutive free kicks on the edge of the Dons box, but the Young Dons hold firm to clear the threat.

73’ – MK try a free kick routine, but ON Chenecks clear and end up counterattacking but Waller manages to somehow clear away a one on one opportunity.

75’ MK Dons SUB: Edwin Daffern replaces Phoenix Scholtz.

77’ – ON Chenecks break down the right and the ball falls to the man in the box but Wood somehow blocks the shot from a yard away to deny a certain goal.

80’ – ON Chenecks have joy again down the right as 16 has an opportunity but his effort goes wide of Sandford’s near post.

86’ – Charlie Waller’s loose pass sets ON Chenecks through, but Anderson manages to make a vital challenge to deny.

87’ – MK Dons counter a moment later and and have a 4 on 1 scenario, but Daffern’s tame shot is gratefully grasped by the keeper.

90+2’ – Adepoju gets on the end of a cross at the near post but he balloons his header over rhe bar.

FULL TIME: No’ton ON Chenecks 0-0 MK Dons

93’ – ON Chenecks lump the ball down field and the attacker curls a shot just over the top of the crossbar.

94’ – Dons go down the other end work the ball well through the host’s defence and Blennerhassett had a golden chance to score, but for the keeper making an unbelievable save to tip wide.

96’ – DONS GOAL – 0-1 – BLENNERHASSETT.  Boyce speeds down the left and curls the ball to Blennerhassett who makes no mistake from close range.

101’ – MK Dons Sub: Liam Mann replaces Bombo.

HALF TIME OF EXTRA TIME: ON Chenecks 0-1 MK Dons

108’ – ON Chenecks fluff their freekick and Dons counter with Daffern through on goal but he somehow misses the target from 10 yards to kill the game.

110’ DONS GOAL – 0-2 – DAFFERN. So Daffern spots the Chenecks keeper off his line and lobs the keeper…from 40 odd yards out!!!

120+1’ – Tripp tries his luck from distance but hus shot strikes the post.

FULL TIME OF EXTRA TIME: ON Chencks 0-2 MK Dons

The Young Dons will now face a trip away to Southend United in the next round as they beat Kettering Town on Wednesday night.
