West Ham Review
Liam Manning’s much changed team took on West Ham’s Academy side in the PJT on Tuesday 4th October at Stadium MK in front of a very sparse crowd as per the norm for the early rounds of this competition. Matthew Dennis notched a brace in the Dons 2-0 victory which leap-frogged the men from MK1 into the qualification places at the Hammers expense.
How Salop Could Line-Up
Steve Cotterill likes to play football on the front foot with emphasis on quick passing and possession-based play.
Possible Salop Starting XI: 3-4-1-2
Burgoyne
Pennington, Dunkley, Flanagan.
Bennett, Moore, Winchester, Leahy.
Bayliss
Saydee, Bowman.
How Dons Could Line-Up?
A standard 3-4-3 formation, with the two wide players dropping back to form a 5, and two wide attackers dropping back to support the pair in the centre when out of possession. Could see a 4-2-3-1 attacking formation depending on the approach to this game.
Possible Dons Starting XI: 3-4-3
Jamie Cumming.
Jack Tucker, Warren O’Hora, Dean Lewington (c)
Daniel Oyegoke, Matt Smith, Dawson Devoy, Daniel Harvie.
Darragh Burns, Will Grigg, Conor Grant.
One’s to Watch
Ryan Bowman (FW) – Salop’s number 9 is currently joint top scorer for the Shrews with 2 goals. He is your typical old school striker who is capable of finishing any type of effort (headers, tap in, or long range) at will. Has a tendency to be a handful for opposing defenders, definitely one to watch today.
Daniel Harvie (WB) – The Dons LWB showed off his shooting prowess against the Posh last weekend. His curler gave Dons hope before Smith lobbed Bergstrøm as the Dons went close. Harvie has grown into that left sided slot over the past year or so and can be relied on to perform when needed. Another solid showing should be on the cards.
Score Prediction
Shrewsbury 1 Dons 1
Two sides who can score but are leaky at the back. This one has a draw written all over it in my opinion.
Goal Scorer? – Conor Grant is my pick to score today.
