REF WATCH – CARABAO CUP SUTTON UNITED

By WhistleBlower

Tuesday night sees SMK host our first ever meeting with Sutton United in the Carabao Cup and as usual we look at the allocated ref, but before that I just wanted to offer a rating on Saturday’s ref Anthony Backhouse…. awful 5/10, and he obviously hasn’t read the new directives for this season about time wasting.

Moving swiftly along we see the return of Charles Breakspear from Surrey and although we have had our ups and downs with “Charlie Boy” in the past, I would argue we have no need to be afraid as it appears his view on us has softened and there has been little to get upset about.

We saw him twice last season, both at home in League 1, the 0-0 draw with Gillingham, and the 2-1 victory against Charlton Athletic

He’s reffed 3 games this season booking 6 players, and he’s even managed to get the red card out in his second game of the season.

Charles though has wiped out a rainforest with his match reports as he reffed 37 games last season and booked a staggering 174 players and sent off 8, in one game he booked 10 players and later dismissed two of those for second offences, guess he must just be unlucky and only get the dirty games, still he only comes from Surrey, so he won’t be riding the EFL gravy train with an overnight stay.

Mr Breakspear will have the assistance of Ryan Whitaker and Andy Bennett on the flags, with Stuart Butler as the 4th Official.
