DONNY & MOOIE TROPHY FLEETWOOD TOWN

HIGHBURY STADIUM – FLEETWOOD

It’s a long old jaunt up to Fleetwood especially on wet night, but our away day stalwart Groundhopper took up the challenge and made the journey and has reported back this morning. Check it out and see if their opinion matched yours on the Highbury Stadium and what it had to offer for the travelling fan.

First Impressions of the stadium, parking, ease of entry.7Highbury Stadium is in a predominantly residential area. The ground has a capacity’s of just under 5,500 with four stands, two of which are terraces. Parking for the coach and those travelling by car was on the nearby streets. There were no issues gaining entry to the ground.  It rained throughout and there was standing water on the pitch
Food & Drink, range, quality, price.9The kiosk served the standard pies, sausage rolls, hot & cold drinks. I didn’t partake but I’m told that the food was reasonably priced and good quality. I believe that alcohol was available.
I’ve just been told to say that the welcome we recieved at Jim’s Bar was superb, the singalong was excellent and there was hot food available.
View from your seat, any poles in the way, obstructed view, seat broken?8We were located at one end of the Parkside stand, relatively close to the pitch with a good view. The away terracing wasn’t open.
Home team support, was it a library, good banter between the fans?6The attendance for this fixture was 3,227. The main home support was located on terracing behind the goal furthest from us. They had a drum but weren’t very vocal.
What were the stewards like, helpful and friendly or jobsworths?8The stewards on the gate and in the ground were friendly and very tolerant in dealing with a fan who was eventually escorted from the stand
Toilet facilities, clean and well equipped with hot water, disgusting.8The toilet blocks were clean and well maintained.
Ticket pricing, did the price reflect the facilities of the ground?7It was £24 for an adult ticket which appears to be the standard price for many grounds in League 1 this season and was reasonable for the facilities. I assume a ticket for the terrace would have been cheaper.
Ground facilities, half time service, did they let fans outside at halftime?7The concourse area is located under the stand and provided shelter from the elements. Fans were allowed out to smoke.
Match atmosphere, did the Dons fans give good support?7I’ve been unable to establish how many Dons fans were in attendance, but they made plenty of noise with the aid of the drum. There wasn’t much banter coming from the home fans.
Ease of exit, did the carpark clear quickly, traffic around the stadium?9Exit from the ground was very easy with minimal congestion around the ground. Those travelling by coach were entertained by a group of local youths who had gathered to wave goodbye. The older male with them even blocked the road he was so keen to delay the departure.
