REF WATCH BURTON

Before we kick off our midweek Ref Watch for our Pizza Cup clash with Burton Albion on Tuesday night, we just want to make you aware that as usual we will not be doing a preview of this game. Both sides will have considerable changes of playing personnel and we could well highlight danger men or ones to look out for and they may not be playing, rest assured, our normal service will return for the League 1 fixture with Cheltenham Town.

The man in the middle for this game will be none other than the larger-than-life character Brett Huxtable from Devon.

We like many other clubs have had our dealings with referee Huxtable and he is no stranger to dubious decisions, and it makes us wonder how he is still officiating at games, although we will say we are not shocked he has been at this level for many years and shows no sign of being elevated to Championship games and beyond.

Huxtable has not officiated at a game this term, so we can only assume he has been unwell, had Covid, or carrying an injury, but Tuesday night will see his triumphant return to the beautiful game.

Last season he oversaw 28 games, handing out 91 yellow cards, 1 double yellow /red card, 3 red cards, and in addition awarded 12 penalties.

The last time we saw lovable Brett was in our League 1 home game with Lincoln City on Sept 19th, 2020, where we lost 2-1 in our 2nd game of the season.

For the record Huxtable booked 5 Dons players and 3 Lincoln players, Joe Mason scoring our only goal of the game.

Huxtable is assisted by Marvyn Amphlett and Steven Rushton on the flags, with Matthew Smith as the 4th Official.
