THE LEAGUE 1 ROUND UP – MKDSA – Milton Keynes Dons Supporters Association.

THE LEAGUE 1 ROUND UP

Just three games to cover tonight which will finally clear up the picture at the top of the table as who needs to do what. Following tonight’s game, if Pompey win at home to Accrington its job done, but if not Charlton and Oxford will be waiting to pounce although Charlton have a tough fixture at home against the Champions Hull City, Oxford have it slightly easier being home to Burton Albion, but how many times have we said that in the latter part of the season.

Charlton 3 Lincoln 1

Charlton made sure they went into the final game with a fighting chance with a comfortable victory over Lincoln who themselves had already guaranteed themselves a shot at the playoffs. Aneke nodded the ball down to Jayden Stockley early in the second half who then fired the ball into the net with so much pace the keeper hardly moved. Ryan Innis doubled the lead just after the hour as he was left all alone on the back post from a corner and he had the easy tak of nodding it home. Two minutes later Charlton were out of sight, on the counter the ball was laid off to Aneke who confidentially side footed it past the keeper.  Lincoln did score two minutes from time through Harry Anderson, but it was just a consolation.

Blackpool 2 Doncaster 0

Blackpool moved up to third place with this win following an Ellis Simms brace, his first came as the Doncaster defence was wide open with the simplest of through balls, Simms raced clear and placed the ball into the corner past the advancing keeper from 18 yards. The second wasn’t much better viewing for Donny fans again Simms was put in through the creaking defence, although this time he need two goes, the first effort coming back off the keeper.

Shrewsbury 0 Ipswich 0

Not many chances in this dead rubber, the closest either team came was ten minutes from time when a Shrews header grazed the cross bar. Ipswich move up to 9th pushing us down one place. It has to be said Paul Cook coming in replacing Lambert has not worked, Cook said at the time he was targeting a top two finish. No doubt next season he will come in for more scrutiny especially with the expected funds coming in from the new backers.
