REF WATCH – IPSWICH

The man in charge on Tuesday night at Sincil Bank is former Premiership and International Ref Robert “Bobby” Madley from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Mr Madley ceased officiating at games in August 2018 after being sacked by PGMOL, the referees officiating body, after it was revealed on social media that Ref Madley had made what he thought was a jokey comment about a disabled person on a six second video person.

He moved to Norway with his Norwegian partner and continued to officiate at games. He returned to the EFL list in January 2020.

Mr Madley has officiated at 30 games this season booking 92 players, 1 of which received a second yellow and of course a red card. 3 players have been given a straight red by Mr Madley, and he has awarded 10 penalties.

The last time Madley reffed for us was way back in October 2013 when we had a 3-2 victory at home to Rotherham in what was an incident packed game. On the stroke of halftime Gleeson was fouled in the box and Michael O’Conner was sent off, as was Millers boss Steve Evans and Shaun Williams converted the penalty. Dave Martin picked up an injury in the first half and was subbed at halftime. Ben Reeves made it 2-0 with an hour on the clock, then with 15 minutes to go the Millers struck twice in two minutes, the first from Frecklington, the second a Tom Flanagan own goal, but with two minutes left Patrick Bamford scored a spectacular winning goal. For the record the line-up that day was, Martin, Otsemobor, Lewington, Potter, Williams, Flanagan, Powell, Gleeson, Reeves, Bamford, Banton. On the bench Hodson, Smith, McLeod, McLoughlin, Baldock, Rasulo, Carruthers.

Mr Madley is assisted by Robert Atkin and Alan Clayton, with James Bell as the 4th Official.
