REF WATCH CHARLTON

Former goalkeeper Dean Whitestone from Northamptonshire takes charge of our game on Tuesday night versus Charlton Athletic and is currently one of the longest serving referees in the professional game having taken charge of his first EFL game back in 2005.

Although I thought it wasn’t that long ago it appears our paths haven’t crossed since Boxing Day 2018 where we lost 3-1 on the road versus Cheltenham Town when we were sitting 2nd in the League 2 table and the Robins were fighting to stay up and just 5 points from the drop zone.

Strangely ref Whitestone has not yet made the jump up to the Premiership after all this time, and it appears he can only be trusted with the 4th officials’ duties at that level, so has to satisfy himself reffing mainly Championship games, but I also note this will be his first game at this level for over two years, so he appears to be going backwards in his career……. strange.

He has taken charge of 18 games so far this season and has awarded a very lowly 30 yellow cards, and just 1 red.

He is joined on the flags by Adam Crysell and Adrian Waters with Matthew Jones attending to the 4th official duties.
