LEAGUE 1 ROUND UP

Another week and a reduced round of fixtures following a weekend of FA Cup football where League 1 clubs had mixed fortunes with half the clubs being dumped out in the 1st Round.

Kicking it off then, how could it be anything else, but I have to award us with team of the week, many cant have given us a chance, but we dug in and got that elusive victory on the road, plus our first ever win against the Black Cats, enjoy that Dons fans, hopefully we can kick start the season now as we move up to 14th.

Moving on then, BLACKPOOL v IPSWICH TOWN, AFCW v WIGAN ATHLETIC, LINCOLN CITY v GILLINGHAM, CHARLTON v ROCHDALE and OXFORD v DONCASTER were all postponed as one team, or another had players away on International duty.

BRISTOL ROVERS 1 FLEETWOOD TOWN 4

Callum Camps scored twice for Fleetwood as they comfortably dispatched Rovers with ease. Ched Evans and Paddy Madden added to their goal tally so far this season, Josh Grant scoring the consolation for Rovers. That’s no win in four for Rovers who slip down to 18th, whilst Fleetwood move to eighth with four wins in their last five games.

CREWE 2 PETERBOROUGH 0

Crewe would normally have won result of the week for toppling the league leaders Posh, Harry Pickering and Charlie Kirk scoring the goals for the Railwaymen. That’s the first defeat for Borough in nine games, and the first points for Crewe after coming up empty handed in the last three. Posh remain top and Crewe jump up to 13th.

HULL CITY 2 BURTON ALBION 0

Last weekend Burton were another team to slip up on a non-league banana skin in the shape of our next round opponents Barnet, and that was despite Barnet playing the whole of the second half with 10 men, and the pain of that got no better as Hull beat them 2-0 with goals from Wilks and Adelakun. You have to feel for Burton who have now not won in 13 games in all comps and are currently missing 12 players with Covid 19, and you can increase that by one as Sam Hughes got his marching orders after just 18 minutes with two yellow card offences.

NORTHAMPTON 0 ACCRINGTON 1

The Cobblers must still be smarting from the humiliation of being dumped out of the FA Cup by non-league Oxford City on Monday night and it got no better for them losing 1-0 at home to Jekyll & Hyde team Accy Stan, Jon Russell scoring the only goal of the game after just 90 seconds, and by all accounts the result flattered the Cobblers as Stanley missed countless chances to make it comfortable.

SHREWSBURY 3 SWINDON TOWN 3

Under the new leadership of manager John Sheridan Swindon Town were involved in a 6-goal thriller with the Shrews. The team from Salop raced into a two-goal lead with goals from Aaron Pierre and Matt Millar, with Joel Grant giving the Robins some hope with a goal just before half time. Dave Edwards restored the two-goal cushion for the Shrews, but just 5 minutes later Hallam Hope reduced the deficit. With the time running out up popped Matt Smith in the 93rd minute to gain a share of the points with a deflected shot.

PLYMOUTH v PORTSMOUTH

Both clubs progressed into the next round of the FA Cup, Portsmouth knocking out Ipswich 3-2 at Portman Park in Extra Time and Plymouth dumped in form Charlton out thanks to a single goal from Luke Jephcott.

This fixture will take place on Monday night.
