IT’S A ROLLOVER

Once again, many thanks to James Rees for doing the research on this one, sadly he couldn’t find a Wigan programme that featured a positive result for us, simply because we have never beaten Wigan in four games, and achieving only one draw and that in the Cup at the DW, but losing the replay at Stadium MK.

This week’s featured programme is from the 2017/18 seasons opener.

MK Dons 0-1 Wigan Athletic

Sky Bet League One

Stadium MK

August 5th, 2017

Dons kicked off the 2017/18 League One season with a visit from Wigan. After last season’s positive end, fans were hopeful of what was to come, and Robbie Neilson named five of his summer signings in the starting eleven with a further three on the bench.

Things didn’t start so positively for us, a 25-yard free kick for the Dons resulted in MK Dons being caught on the counter and Nick Powell finished the move with a calm finish past Lee Nicholls.

Wigan then had Callum Elder sent off after 44 minutes for a lunging challenge on George Williams but the Dons could not exploit the Wigan defence with their extra man, and things got worse as Scott Wootton was sent off for taking down Michael Jacobs. The referee insisted he was the last man, although there was plenty of ground for Jacobs to make up.

1-0 was how it stayed to ensure an opening day defeat for Robbie Neilson’s men. Dan with a plan came in at the end of January that season, but his plan failed as the Dons were relegated.
