REF WATCH GILLINGHAM

The EFL Appointments have been announced for the weekend and we cautiously look at the stats for this weeks man in the middle and see if we have any history, we certainly don’t want anyone that is likely to have a grudge against franchise football, and let’s face it we need all the help we can get.

So, the man that potentially holds our fate in the palm of his hand is none other than Neil Hair from Cambridgeshire who once famously sent off Tranmere defender Liam Ridehalgh after just 54 seconds of the game.

According to our records the last time Mr Hair was on the whistle in a game involving us was back in 2019 on Boxing Day away to Southend United in a game we drew 2-2 in. On that day Mr Hair never over involved himself too much in the game booking five in total three of which were Dons players. For the record, the result saw both us and the Shrimpers stay in the bottom three, at the time we had played 22 games and had just 18 points.

Strangely the time before that when our paths crossed was only a few weeks earlier in an EFL Trophy game again against Southend, and this time 4-1 to us in what is highly regarded as the day Sam Nombe came of age.

In the last two seasons he has averaged 4.2 yellow cards per game but seems reluctant to flash a second yellow or a straight red as it looks like he hasn’t given anyone their marching orders for a while now.Mr Hair is joined by Assistants Geoffrey Russell and David Hunt, with the Fourth Official, Matthew Lee.
