REF WATCH – LINCOLN CITY

Every week we take a quick look at the man in the middle in Ref Watch and see if we have history, this week for our home game with Lincoln City we cast an eye over your friend and mine, the cuddly Brett Huxtable from Devon.

Although it seems that our paths have crossed on several occasions, it appears Brett Huxtable was the man in charge just once for us last season, which is a surprise, and that against Shrewsbury Town at home where we won 1-0, Rhys Healey inflicting the knockout blow in the 93rd minute from a Ben Reeves cross. That was our first game of the season with our opening fixture cancelled against Bury with all their financial woes and problems.

The Man in the Middle – Brett Huxtable

Mr Huxtable booked just two people that day, one from each side, and most notably the gaffer Russell Martin for us.

Huxtable officiated over 27 games last season before Covid rudely brought a halt to proceedings, issuing 96 yellow cards, 2 double yellows resulting in a sending off, just 2 straight red cards, and awarding 9 penalties.

A quick glance at Google shows that Mr Huxtable is not very popular as a referee, attracting may critically comments from team managers and fans alike, there is even a petition to prevent him ever refereeing again, and on the popular website Transfer Market he is rated at a lowly 2 stars out of 5 in their referee ratings.

Huxtable is joined by Assistants Conor Farrell, and Ollie Williams, with Michael Chard as the 4th Official.
