IN FOCUS – DONCASTER ROVERS

LAST SEASON – Donny finished in 9th place with a record of PLAYED 34, WON 15, DRAWN 9, LOST 10, GF 51 & GA 33, POINTS 54 and ironically we were the last team they played in the league way back in March, oh yes and we lost 1-0.

YEAR OF FORMATION – 1879

CLUB NICKNAME – Donny, Rovers.

DONCASTER SEASONS ODDS – Champions 28/1, Promotion 9/1, Relegation 7/1

MANAGER – Darren Moore, aged 46, born in Birmingham.

As a defender his playing career kicked off at Torquay United in 1992 and finished some 20 years later at Burton Albion and along the way he turned out for Doncaster Rovers, Bradford City, Portsmouth, West Brom, Derby County and Barnsley. In that time, he made 599 appearances and scored 32 goals and he also represented Jamaica on three occasions being eligible on his father’s side.

This is his second appointment into the role of Gaffer, his previous being West Brom where he took over from Alan Pardew as a Caretaker boss making him the first Jamaican to manage in the Premiership. Initially Moore got off to a good start that saw him elevated to the permanent role, but a poor string of home defeats cost him his job and in stepped Slaven Bilic.

Moore took over at Rovers in July 2019 replacing Grant McCann who moved to take charge of Hull City in the Championship.

His managerial stats add up well, with a WIN RATIO of 43% and a record of GAMES 89, WON 39, DRAWN 23, LOST 27, although that WIN RATIO slips down to 39% with Donny, but it is still well above average for a League 1 Manager.

Back in 2011 Tracy Chandeler who was the person inside the costume, appeared in just her knickers, stockings and bra on the pages of the Sunday Sport with the Donny Dog costume, she was sacked, but was later reinstated after a fans campaign.

FAMOUS FANS – Jezza Clarkson, Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, John Parr from St Elmo’s Fire fame, Tony “Amarillo” Christie, and comedian and Golden Shot host Charlie Williams, who also played for the club on 171 occasions.
