I sometimes favour the M1 then the M62 route to try an avoid traffic as the M6 around Stoke on Trent is littered with roadworks, and if you have the time for a leisurely drive you can even cut through the Peak District National Park.
A proper old football ground this one and we should be in the Willbutts Lane Stand, which is on one side of the ground, and If you do nothing else do not miss the Willbutts Lane chippy which is almost opposite the turnstiles for the away fans, this in my opinion is one of the delights of away day football and always does brisk business on match days.
There are a number of watering holes within a short distance of the ground, Studds which is actually under the Pearl Street Stand, the Radcliffe Arms is located at the car park entrance and boasts real ale, hot food and Sky TV and welcomes away fans, failing that you can always try the Cemetery Hotel at the bottom of Sandy Lane on the corner of Bury Road.
Those of you driving up should note that it is street parking only and there are several residents only schemes in place, so be careful and look out for the warning signs.
If travelling by train. Rochdale Railway Station is just under two miles from Spotlands and is served by Manchester Victoria.
