Jon is a legend amongst MK Dons fans for his back-heeled goal against AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup 2nd round match on 2 December 2012. His 92nd minute goal won the game 2-1 and was later christened the “Heel of God”.

Born in Liverpool on  23 March 1983, he progressed through Liverpool FC’s youth system and signed a professional contract with the club on 23 March 2000. He made his first team debut in Liverpool's 3–1 win over Southampton in the League Cup.

After loan spells at Hull, Bolton and Crewe, Jon joined Rotherham on 5 July 2005, on a free transfer and signed signed permanently for Crewe on 19 January 2006,  moving to Norwich in June 2007. He joined Southampton on 14 January 2010, on a free transfer, then Sheffield Wednesday that July

Jon joined MK Dons in the summer of 2012 and made 53 appearances for the club in all over a 15 month period before being loaned to Tranmere Rovers in November 2013.

His only other goal for the Dons was a header in a 5-1 home win over Colchester eight days before the “Heel of God”. He left the club by mutual consent on 8 January 2014.
